Eligibility for Initial Teacher Training

We are looking for people with passion, determination and commitment who have the skills and qualities needed to become exceptional primary school teachers, improving lives and life chances.  To apply for a place on our School Direct Programme, candidates must meet the following entry requirements:

 

 

  GCSEs                                  

GCSE passes or equivalent*, at Grade C or above/new GCSE grade 4 or above in English, maths and science

  Degree

 

Applicants must have an Undergraduate Honours degree or equivalent with minimum classification of 2:2. Where an applicant has gained a degree overseas, applicants are responsible for providing the NARIC evidence that the degree award is comparable to a UK undergraduate degree. This evidence will be checked against the original certificates. 

 

  DBS 

 

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required at the point of accepting a place on the programme. 

 

  Right to work

 

All applicants must have the right to work in the UK to be eligible for School Direct training with REAch Teach

 

 Fundamental         skills in English   and maths

 

Trainees completing an Initial Teacher Training Programme must demonstrate the required competencies in the Fundamentals of English and Maths outlined by the Department for Educations before Qualified Teacher Status is awarded. During the interview process, candidates will complete a short maths test and writing task. 

 

 

*We prefer candidates to have already gained the required GCSEs on application. There are currently a range of equivalences which can be accepted. These are an equivalency test from www.equivalencytesting.com or a University of Derby in-house equivalency test. Please contact schooldirect@derby.ac.uk if you need clarification.
